WHAT IS THE PURPOSE AND GOAL OF “BOUNCERS”?

The purpose and goal of “BOUNCERS” is to teach the following life skills:

1. SELF-DISCIPLINE - Through the “BOUNCERS” program, each child will have the opportunity to progress at their own pace. This progression will only take place as the child commits themselves to practice on a regular basis. Mastering the skills in the “BOUNCERS” program will require self-discipline.

2. GOAL-SETTING - There are three levels of achievement in the “BOUNCERS” program. Each level of achievement is awarded with a colored bracelet. The red bracelet represents level one, the blue bracelet represents level two and the multi-colored bracelet represents level three. Each level of achievement requires that certain skills be mastered. Each child must make it their goal to master these skills in order to advance and receive the corresponding bracelet.

3. PERSISTENCE - Although attainable, the skills taught in the “BOUNCERS” program are not easy. The process involved in mastering each skill contains much opportunity for failure. In order to master the skills, each child will have to learn to handle failure and overcome the desire to give up. This process teaches persistence and encourages the child to persevere in spite of failure and disappointment.

4. OVERCOMING FEAR - One of the greatest fears in most human beings is speaking or performing in public. The “BOUNCERS” program allows kids the opportunity to overcome that fear each time they perform. With each performance, children will develop an increased confidence in themselves and their abilities. This is a learned skill that can be beneficial to them in future tasks they encounter throughout their entire lives.

5. TEAMWORK AND COOPERATION - There are a number of skills taught in the “BOUNCERS” program which involve the use of a partner or number of partners. Furthermore, performances are designed for group participation, not individual participation. These factors make teamwork and cooperation a necessity for success. This same ability to work and cooperate with others is required in almost every walk of life from business to personal relationships.
